Example of a Bad Mulch Job

Our Professional Landscapers Know Mulch.
This photo shows a great example of a really bad mulch job in Jacksonville Beach. The mulch should not be piled up against the tree’s trunk- it should not even be touching the tree’s trunk. When we install mulch around plants and trees, we lay it thick (2″-4″ deep) in the open areas and I taper it off to 0″ deep as it approaches a plant or tree.
The trunk of a tree is meant to be above ground and if mulch is piled up against it, it creates an environment of excess moisture and a place for pests to live. The excess moisture can cause rot on the trunk, which is basically an open wound and is vulnerable to infestation or infection.
